Excellent Processing Performance with a Wide Array of Flow and Impact Options

In addition to its outstanding range of specialty grades, SABIC offers a broad selection of general-purpose Cycolac ABS resins. These highly colorable products offer excellent processing performance and a wide array of flow and impact options. SABIC’s general-purpose portfolio offers Cycolac grades designed either for extrusion or injection molding, including grades for medical, food contact, high gloss, low gloss, flame retardant, and other requirements.

Why Cycolac™

Why Cycolac™

Cycolac’s excellent impact strength and toughness make it ideal for use in situations where the material may be subjected to heavy impact or stress. In addition, its good flow properties allow it to be easily processed and molded into complex shapes. Furthermore, it exhibits good resistance to chemicals and solvents, making it a suitable choice for use in applications where it will be exposed to harsh chemicals or cleaning agents. Cycolac resin can also be blended with other thermoplastics, such as polycarbonate, to create a material with enhanced properties, further expanding its versatility.

Characteristics and Properties

Cycolac ABS resins are terpolymers that are formed by blending an amorphous thermoplastic copolymer of acrylonitrile (A) and Styrene (S) and an elastomeric component which is usually polybutadiene or a butadiene copolymer (B). The flexibility offered by the use of the three monomer systems allows the property profile to be tailored to meet a broad range of end-use requirements. Characteristics and properties found across the product line include:

  • High gloss finish
  • Good low-temperature ductility
  • Excellent thermal properties
  • Very good processing performance
  • Good chemical resistance
  • Low shrinkage, low warping
  • High dimensional stability
  • Good electrical properties
  • Good paintability
